What is a chiropractor (DC)?

A chiropractor is an independently licensed Doctor of Chiropractic whose practice centres on manual treatment of the spine and musculoskeletal system.

In plain English

Chiropractic is a separate licensed profession with its own four-year doctoral programs, national board examinations and state boards. Practice is built around manual adjustment and manipulation, usually with exercise, soft tissue work and physical modalities alongside it.

Chiropractors are portal-of-entry providers in every state, meaning a patient can go directly without a referral. Scope varies - imaging, physical modalities, nutritional advice and certain diagnostic privileges differ by state - and chiropractors do not prescribe drugs or perform surgery anywhere.

Almost all of the profession is in small independent practice, often owner-operated single sites. That makes chiropractors a large and very fragmented business audience in which each record is usually both the clinician and the buyer.
